Answer:

March 18, 2018

The Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) will hold again a 2-Day National TVET Enrolment and Jobs Bridging program to search for more scholars need in the construction and information technology – business process management (IT-BPM), which are among the key employment generators (KEGs).

TESDA Director General Guiling “Gene” A. Mamondiong said that the 2-Day Special National TVET Enrolment and Jobs Fair will be held at the TESDA Technology Institutions (TTIs) and offices nationwide on April 5-6.

The special TVET enrolment will mostly benefit the construction sector for the "Build, Build, Build" program of President Rodrigo Duterte and IT-BPM.

Mamondiong is inviting the overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) especially those who just arrived from Kuwait and other parts of the Middle East to avail of the program.

Among the sectors invited by TESDA in the jobs fair were the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), Philippine Constructors Association (PCA) and IT and Business Process Association of the Philippines (IT-BPAP)

Mamondiong explained that the 2-day National TVET Enrolment and Jobs Bridging will be held again to increase the number enrolees in construction and IT-BPM courses. Last Feb. 27-28, TESDA and the other partner agencies staged the 1st National TVET Enrolment and Jobs Bridging project.

The event also aims to give jobs to TVET graduates provided for by partner industries during the jobs fair.

Mamondiong also said that TESDA is preparing for the surge in the increase in the number of skilled labor needed under the construction and IT-BPM category.

Based on the recent number of TVET enrolees, up to 28,000 scholars registered in various construction-related programs; 17,000 in Computer Systems Servicing NC II; and 8,499 in 46 courses under ICT sector.

Mamondiong also said that the government will focus on the construction sector because its services are badly needed for the "Build Build Build" of the administration.

The TESDA chief said that the 28,000 who enrolled in the construction sector is very small compared to the 100,000 workforce needed for the infrastructure projects. He also believes that the small salary could be the main reason why there were only few scholar applicants.

Earlier, Mamondiong said that the construction training will give priority to indigenous peoples (IPs), the poor and rebel returnees.

In the recent jobs bridging program, welders topped the most the number of jobs offered by the participating companies and agencies with 7,201. Other jobs were mason, 5,331; production operators, 5,010; scaffolder, 4,965; production operators, 4,285; and carpenters, 1,550.

TESDA will also distribute STEP tool kits during the Special National TVET Enrolment Day and Jobs Bridging.
